Carlisle man stole toy gun for son

A man who stole a toy gun to give to his son has been fined.
Simon Queen, 37, of Orton Road, off Wigton Road, Carlisle, was caught on CCTV along with Mark Bennett, 44, of Leabourne Road, Currock, stealing items from B&M Bargains in Carlisle on December 20.
Queen took a toy gun for his son – which he later discarded in a bin after feeling bad about stealing it – while Bennett took a rug.
Queen was also caught attempting to steal a tin of paint from the store on January 3.
Defending himself, Queen said: “It was stupid and I was drunk.”
Bennett said: “I’m sorry I did it, and it won't happen again.”
The pair, who appeared at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court, were ordered to pay £75 costs each, fined £25, and told to pay a £15 victim surcharge. Queen was also ordered to pay back the value of the stolen gun at £14.99.
