Last updated at 12:47, Wednesday, 11 July 2012
Magistrates have remanded a man in custody after he appeared before them charged with sexually assaulting a woman in the Stanwix area of Carlisle last month.
Stephen Antony Bell, 36, of Oaklands Drive, Upperby, is also charged with using threatening behaviour and harassment which included the sending of sexually explicit text messages.
The sexual assault is said to have happened in a public area on June 20, and the threatening behaviour offence on the same day.
The third alleged offence is said to have happened over a period in June and July.
Bell entered no pleas when he appeared at the city’s magistrates court yesterday. The case was sent to crown court.
Magistrates ruled that the case should be sent to Carlisle Crown Court and remanded Bell in custody until his next court appearance.
