Carlisle man made 'bite your faces off' threat to police officers

A man threatened to bite police officers and urinate on their heads after he was arrested for drink-driving.
Sean Alfred McHale, 32, of Currock Road, Carlisle, admitted to drink-driving, assaulting a constable in the execution of his/her duty and violent behaviour at a police station.
McHale had been spotted staggering on to the garage forecourt of the Esso Garage in London Road just after midnight on July 5.
Adrienne Harris, prosecuting, said he had “clearly been drunk and unsteady on his feet” and “staggered towards a red car and got in”.
When police later came to his home to arrest him, McHale swore at them but admitted to driving the car.
He was later found to have 75 microgrammes alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.
Ms Harris said: “On being arrested his mood changed quickly.
“He said ‘When I get these handcuffs off I’m going to start biting your faces off. I’ll sort you out.’
“He continued with that abuse all the while he was in custody.”
The court heard that he had told the police “Wait till I see you up town” and had spat in an officer’s face. When taken to the cells, he “promptly urinated all over the floor”, Ms Harris said.
Judge Gerald Chalk said: “This behaviour is not acceptable and you are putting yourself at real risk of getting locked up.
“I’m giving you one more opportunity but if you screw this up you are going to prison.”
Mike Reay, defending, said that his client “certainly had a problem with alcohol.”
He added that his client had started drinking that day because it was the seven-year anniversary of his mother’s death.
McHale was given a 12 month community order and instructed to undertake 120 hours of unpaid work in respect of each incident. He was ordered to pay £150 in compensation and £85 costs.
