Carlisle man gets late Christmas present

A man who has been putting up festive lights for eight years has finally got his reward – bagging the News & Star best Christmas decorations prize.
Geoff Topliss has pocketed £100 after his bright and beautiful display was judged to be the best in the area.
His lights this year were designed to accompany Christmas techno music.
His son Darren helps him put up the illuminations each year and they stay up for about a month.
He hopes they bring a little joy into the lives of anyone walking past his home on Low Meadow, Belle Vue, Carlisle.
Mr Topliss said: “I put them up for my grand-kids and kids on the street. I’m going to put lights up again this year and I’m trying to work out what to do. I’ve already been looking for stuff.”
Electricity North West, a company that owns and operates the county’s power network and sponsored our competition, picked Mr Topliss’ display as the winner.
