Carlisle man denies indecent assault on girl

A man has gone on trial charged with indecently assaulting a young girl nearly 20 years ago.

Richard Kane, 36, is accused of twice touching the same 10-year-old when he was aged about 18.

Kane, of Blackwell Road, Currock, Carlisle, appeared before the city’s Crown Court yesterday.

He denies the charge.

The court saw video evidence of a police interview with the alleged victim in which she said she “knew it wasn't right”.

A jury was also told how she said he had “a week or two later” put his hand on her nose and mouth and threatened her.

The girl, now a grown woman, later gave evidence in court.

She was asked if she was unsure about the whole incident. The woman, who cannot be named by law, replied: “No”

The trial continues.
