Broken hearted Jonathan Monkhouse was “knocked for six” by the break up of his marriage.

So much so, a court was told, that the 28-year-old digger driver, from Carlisle, just could not keep away from his estranged wife.

One night he went to her home at The Terrace at Kelhead, near Annan, phoned from outside asking Susan Monkhouse to allow him into the house and when this was refused, climbed in through a bathroom window.

When she went into the bedroom she found Monkhouse there refusing to leave. She phoned a neighbour and the police were contacted.

At Dumfries Sheriff Court, Monkhouse, of Hilltop Cottage, Cocklakes, admitted behaving in a threatening or abusive manner at the house, entering uninvited overnight last Wednesday and putting Susan Monkhouse in a state of alarm.

The court was told that the drama unfolded after 11pm when the first of his messages were received.

It was about two hours later that Susan went to her bedroom and found Monkhouse.

Police arrived at about 3am and Monkhouse was found just after 5am hiding in nearby bushes.

Solicitor Jacquie Latham said Monkhouse realised that this sort of behaviour could lead him to prison, but he had found the end of the relationship very difficult to accept.

Sheriff Brian Cameron deferred sentence for six months, but warned Monkhouse: “You are sliding towards a place I don’t think you want to go.”
