Police were called to the address on Tuesday morning following a call from a concerned member of the public.

They say there are no suspicious circumstances.

Mr Bradley, 50, was a divorced father of two daughters. He suffered from severe epilepsy.

He worked at the McDonald’s drive-through restaurant at Kingstown.

He had been active in Labour politics for many years and was also a born-again Christian and a member of the Hebron Evangelical Church in Botchergate.

He stood in Castle ward at the Carlisle City Council elections in 2000, and at the Cumbria County Council elections the following year, but was not elected.

Councillor Steven Bowditch, a close friend, told the News & Star: “Peter was a real character.

“Nobody who wasn’t already a councillor worked harder for the Labour Party in Carlisle.”

David Roberts, the coroner for north and west Cumbria, has been informed about the death.
