Carlisle head-butt man knocked himself unconscious during attack

A man who head-butted another man knocked himself unconscious and had to be taken to hospital.

Ben Robson, 24, of Strawberry Terrace, Stanwix, Carlisle, appeared at the city's magistrates’ court where he admitted assault.

The court was told how Robson walked past a group of men in the early hours of July 22 on Botchergate, Carlisle.

He heard what he thought was someone shouting remarks about his brother. Robson went over and head-butted Christopher Howe knocking himself out in the process.

Adrienne Harris, prosecuting, told District Judge Gerald Chalk, that the victim had not made any comments about Robson`s brother and didn’t even know him.

Chris Toms, defending, told the judge that this was out of character for Robson.

He said he wanted to apologise to the police officers as he had been aggressive towards them having drunk too much.

Judge Chalk sentenced Robson to a community order of one-year with the requirement that he does 80 hours of unpaid work in the community.
