Carlisle Fireshow crowd urged to dig deep for local charities

Visitors to this year’s Carlisle Fireshow are being asked to dig into the bottom of their pockets and support local charities.

The fireshow attracts about 35,000 people

A charity collection is held each year. All donations go towards the Rotary Club of Carlisle South, (which donates most of its fundraising efforts to local good causes), and the Mayor’s Charity Fund, whose main beneficiaries this year are the Eden House Children’s Hospice and the Alzheimer’s Society.

Last year, £6,431.79 was raised.

Volunteers will be holding charity buckets on the entrance to the event in Bitts Park on November 3 and organisers are asking the fireshow’s adult spectators to consider giving £1 each.

This year, volunteers from Rotary, the Alzheimer’s Society, and Eden Valley Hospice will also be selling glow products at the event, which has a Best of British theme.

Mike Wiggington, President of the Rotary Club, said: “We hope the spectators make a special effort to support the efforts of the Rotary collectors and the sales points set up by the main beneficiaries of the Mayor’s Charity Fund.

“We know times are hard, but the annual Fireshow is well worth a pound from every adult attending.”

About 35,000 people attend the free fireshow, organised by Carlisle City Council, every year.

This year will be the 26th event. A giant bonfire will take centre stage at this year’s event. Spectacular fireworks will also make sure the event goes with a ‘bang’.

Pre-entertainment will start at 6.30pm and the bonfire lit at 7pm. The whole event is likely to last for about an hour.

Alcohol is not allowed on site.

The city council has organised the event in conjunction with Highlights Pyrotechnics Ltd.

Cumbria Fire & Rescue Service is sponsoring the fireshow. Support is also received from Johnstone Leyland Paint, Carlisle Scaffolding, Mini Mobile UK Ltd, Story Group, Wallace Oils and Brampton Skip Hire.
