Van driver denies taking hands off wheel to do make-up

A Carlisle driver has been accused of paying more attention to her make-up than the road.

Eleanor Michelle Arnold, 33, from Tower Farm in Rickerby, denied the charge of not being in full control of her Ford Transit van when she appeared at North Cumbria Magistrates’ Court.

The offence was alleged to have taken place in London Road, Carlisle, on January 10 this year and, according to the charge, Arnold had both hands off the steering wheel while she was applying mascara.

The charge added that one hand was holding the applicator brush and she was using the other to hold her face.

However, before entering her not guilty plea, Arnold told the magistrate that at the time she was stationary at a set of traffic lights.

The case was adjourned for a trial date to be set.
