A 61-year-old man exposed himself to a woman he was giving a lift to after sexual banter between them escalated.
Raymond John White, from Harraby, Carlisle, was driving the woman home when he pulled her hand towards his open trousers and made sexual comments.
Carlisle magistrates court heard how White, of Pennine Way, was driving on the M6 from Kingstown when he crossed the line.
The court heard how White and the woman, who is married, had known one another for a few years and had exchanged sexual banter but nothing more.
White had denied indecent exposure but was convicted following a trial.
The court heard yesterday how when the woman got out of the car she told White, who used to work at the Metal Box factory in Carlisle, that he had crossed the line.
The pair have not spoken since, prosecutor Sarah Rogers said.
Geoff Clapp, defending, said the incident came to light when the woman told her husband what had happened a few days later and the police became involved.
Magistrates sentenced White to a 24-month community order and ordered him to attend the sexual offenders programme.
He was also put on the sex offenders register for five years and told to pay £300 compensation to the woman plus £100 court costs.
