Carlisle council leader says it's time to ditch 'Great Border City' tag

Carlisle should ditch its “dated Border City slogan”, say leading politicians.

Have your say

What a load of rubbish, we are a great city, and it's on the border so why change what we've got , the the image when people enter our city is plain to see Carlisle The Great Border City, it says it all. What other city can say that, none,

It doesn't take Labour long to think up another way of wasting money. Don't the voters have short memories - remember the last time they were in office, spend, spend, spend. I hope they are prepared to pay for their moment of madness when they placed the X in the wrong box.

the old cynic in me sees another waste of money - consultants to think of a slogan, all official documents to be replaced etc. Never mind, the good old rate payer can be squeezed again, the pips in this old cynic are almost past squeaking.

I don't see any negativity in the name "Great Border City", to me it represent history. Why not keep the tag and add another line, "Discover it today"??? Not saying that should be it but I think we should expand on what we have and not forget the past.

so are labour going to now get rid of the council castle logo ... i recall they were all in favour of returning the crest when Cllr Parsons proposed it then suddenly
tney were all against it. i believe the tory argument was it would cost too much.

If people up above don't think it's 'great' any more, what chance have us residents got. Leave it as it is and build on what we have got to offer! I can't believe this has come to light, another money and time wasting exercise. Be more constructive, please!

It's going to end up as Carlislistan, like the rest of the North West of England. Get ready to weigh the postal votes for Joe Hendry & his comrades.

Just another daft idea to ruin this lovely "Border City" history.
They are doing well aren't they !
There is a lot of people come to this city because of its history as a "Border City"

"border" implies a city subject to more contrasting influences than a city buried away deep in the interior doesn't it? As a slogan it sounds the opposite of insular.

Yet another brilliant example of how out of touch politicians are with the real people. I might be wrong here but I'm sure the people of Carlisle are proud of its 'Great Border City' tag. I certainly am! Why don't they stop thinking of ridiculous ways to rebrand Carlisle and actually do something postive and constructive for the city instead of thinking of stupid ideas in an office.
