Carlisle child sex accused: I'm an innocent man

A man accused of child sex offences dating back more than a decade told a court: “I am an innocent man.”

Michael Tremble, 47, of Thomson Street, London Road, Carlisle, made the comments at Carlisle Crown Court.

He has been charged with five sex crimes, four of which involved children. One, of indecency with a child, dates to 1999.

Three other charges – two of indecent assault and a separate accusation of indecency with a child – all date from the early 2000s and concern a female under 16.

The most recent charge is one of sexual assault against an adult woman by touching, alleged to have taken place between 2007 and 2008. Tremble told the jury he had touched the woman but this was because he had confused her with another female.

Andrew Ford, prosecuting, told Tremble under cross-examination: “All you cared and were worried about was getting your own way.”

But Tremble replied: “It is appalling what you have just said.” He added: “I am an innocent man.”

The trial continues.

How far would you go to look at a bird?

Very far. Excited when rare birds set up home here

I watch birds through the window and on TV. That's all

Birdwatching doesn't appeal to me. I'd go a long way to avoid a gull though
