Carlisle businessman denies lap dancing club rumours

A businessman has spoken out to quash rumours that he is about to open a lap-dancing club in Carlisle.
Graham Lowes, 54, is planning to launch a new business on Shaddongate in the premises previously occupied by the Cumbria Suite Centre.
The business, which will not sell alcohol and will have security cameras, will feature individual booths for people who are interested in playing X-Box games, as well as a party room, children’s disco, and events room.
But Mr Lowes said that on Thursday evening a police officer visited him to pass on the concerns of locals who had heard that he was about to open a lap-dancing club.
He said: “The officer said people had expressed concern about the new business, and were worried about the noise it might generate. I asked him what they thought I was opening and he said they thought it would be a lap-dancing club.
“But it’s just not true,” said Mr Lowes, who previously ran a maintenance business and a cleaning company. “There’s obviously been some kind of misunderstanding.”
