Shutting: A notice has appeared at Hollymill Cycles in Botchergate saying that the business is closing

A notice has appeared at Hollymill Cycles in Botchergate saying that the business is due to close.

A spokeswoman said this was because the owner was due to retire and added that a buyer could not be found. She added: “Trade is quiet due to the recession.”

The news follows yesterday’s report that the Carlisle branch of toy giant Toys ‘R’ Us will be pulling out of the city later this month with the loss of about 25 jobs.

The latest closures come after Carlisle last year lost a number of big names including: Jaeger, Benetton, JJB Sports, Past Times, The Disney Store, Goldsmiths and Comet.
