'Buy Blencathra' campaigners holding public meeting

A public meeting is being held to help offer the public more information on the community campaign to buy a Lake District mountain.

Blencathra is being sold by Lord Lonsdale to help pay off a £9m inheritance tax bill.

It has a price tag of £1.75m and has attracted interest from around the world.

But rather than see Saddleback sold to someone overseas, the Friends of Blencathra has been set up in a bid to buy it for the community.

The group set itself up as a company and is applying for charitable status. Hundreds of people have now donated towards the cause.

A meeting has been organised by the Friends group steering committee, to answer any questions the public may have.

It will take place at 2pm on Saturday at the Rheged Centre near Penrith and is open to everyone.
