A man was airlifted from a mountain near Buttermere today after suffering a back injury.

The male – said to be aged 41-50 and from Derbyshire – was taken to The Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle by the Great North Air Ambulance, which was called out at 12.50pm.

Paramedics and a doctor treated the man at the scene. They then transported him to hospital in 12 minutes.

A spokesman said his injuries were “non life-threatening”.
