The number of visitors was three per cent up on the previous year with sales up by seven per cent.

A spokesman for the outlet village said it was the most successful year since it opened 13 years ago.

General manager Peter Gardner said sales had shown consistent growth since the start of the credit crunch. He said: “Shoppers realise that they can still get the brands they want at prices they can afford.

“The new tenants and product sectors introduced in the last year mean we now have even more choice.”

New stores which opened up at the site in 2012 included a Clarks Outlet, Berghaus, Molton Brown, Puma, The Body Shop Outlet and Villeroy & Boch.
