Carlisle's Chapmans shop to shut after 165 years

A landmark furniture business in Carlisle is to close after 165 years.

Have your say

To Notsaying , if you want quality furniture you pay the price. If you want cheap tat I would recommend going elsewhere. At the end of the day, you only get what you pay for. Some of us like the quality things in life from exotic holidays to flash cars.

Really sorry to hear that Chapmans will be closing with the loss of jobs. Obviously EJ and NotSaying do not appreciate quality. At the end of the day you get what you pay for. Good luck to all the staff for the future, I hope you all find alternative employment.

What narrow minded ridiculous comments. The quality was excellent and you only get what you pay for.
I will be sorry to see Chapmans close, it was an institution in the City.

EJ , are they going to brick up the road to extend Tesco, I don't think that's likely.

It was ridiculously expensive, the type of shop you look at the prices in the window and wince! Nice to dream though....
It is a shame that there is another store in Carlisle closing but may be EJ is right? A larger meat counter would be amazing!!!

I think its a huge shame Chapmams is closing, this type of store selling Quality furniture, lighting and carpets is hard to find, all to many cheap shops for me. Sad to see you go. MH

Can't say I'm surprised at all 165 years of raking it in. All good things come to an end !

It was over-priced tat! Hopefully Tesco will expand into it and have a bigger meat counter.

Perhaps in this day and age, people don't see the need for a shop that sells sofas for over £3000, end tables for £800 and a lamp for a little over £1000.
