Blaze closes north Cumbria chip shop

A popular fish and chip shop has been forced to close for a few days.

The Original John’s Plaice, in Cardewlees, near Carlisle, closed its doors yesterday following a small fire overnight.

The bins at the rear of the building caught alight, damaging the potato shed.

While the restaurant and kitchens were not damaged, staff have been forced to temporarily close while repairs are made.

The restaurant was opened by John Hope in July 2009.

An exact date for reopening has not been set, but staff are optimistic it will be before the end of the week.
