The supermarket chain confirmed this week that it would still be using generators when it opens on October 27 but a spokeswoman said this would not affect the opening in any way.
A spokeswoman for the next-door Co-op in Maryport said: “We have been in discussion with Lidl about running power lines under our store but no conclusion has yet been reached.”
Lidl said full details of the opening of the supermarket will be available next week.
It is likely to include a ribbon-cutting ceremony and activities including product tasting.
The new store will be among the first of its kind in Britain, the firm has said, as it will be a “Lidl of the Future”, modelled on more upmarket chains.
