Once a classy gentleman's residence, a well-loved lakeland hotel has been transformed into a cool, chic waterside haven.

Another Place, The Lake, has opened its doors at Watermillock on Ullswater in what was formerly the Rampsbeck Country House Hotel after a £3.5million upgrade.

With its emphasis on outdoor activities and set in acres of 18 acres of grounds, the new hotel has 40 bedrooms housed in the Rampsbeck's original Georgian building and newly-added modern extension.

It has been developed by Will Ashworth who also owns the Watergate Bay Hotel in north Cornwall, as a centre for "active relaxation."

It offers opportunities for guests to try out open-water swimming, sailing, stand-up paddle boarding, cycling, walking and skiing.

Indoors, the swim club includes a 20-metre infinite pool, hot tub, sauna, treatment rooms and a cardio room.

A spokesman said: "Another Place is a home from home. It’s all about being active, getting outdoors, then relaxing, eating and drinking well with friends and family back indoors.

"Open-water swimming, sailing, stand-up paddle boarding, cycling, walking, even skiing, allow you to explore the stunning location – a place that has shaped so much of this hotel, from the colours and textures of its interiors to the active, laidback living it inspires.

"Gathering spaces are woven throughout the hotel and grounds and include a library, a cosy escape in the original Georgian building, complete with fireside sofas, board games and floor-to-ceiling windows.

"You’ll find formal gardens, fields, a private lakeshore, jetty and a vegetable patch. A number of paths and trails around Ullswater are easily accessible from the hotel."

The hotel has two restaurants both with views of the Ullswater and the surrounding countryside.
