It's the iconic centerpiece from a massive TV show that's drawn millions of viewers and dozens of awards across the globe.

And the Iron Throne that characters in Game of Thrones are so keen to get their hands on was brought to Cumbria this weekend, with lucky fans given the chance to live out the small screen fantasy and become king or queen.

They came from across Cumbria and were queuing up at Lloyd Volvo's showroom, in Parkhouse, Kingstown, Carlisle, to take their turn at sitting on the distinctive and daunting piece of Royal furniture.

Avid fans Ashley Anderson and David Turner made the journey from Dean, near Cockermouth, with their three-month-old daughter Rose.

Ashley, 26, said: "We absolutely love it."

David, 46, said: "It's the proper throne. I don't think we would have come if it was a plastic replica or anything. It's pretty cool.

"It will be a point in history for Rose.

"When she grows up and she sees the programme we can tell her she sat on the actual throne from Game of Thrones."

The impressive sword-laden chair, which is central to the Sky Atlantic hit show, arrived on Friday exclusively for the launch of Lloyd Volvo's new showroom and is being taken away today.

"It was our grand opening of the new showroom and the new face of Volvo, and because of cooperation with Sky Atlantic we've managed to get the throne over here," explained Roza Romanowska, franchise marketing manager for Lloyd Volvo.

"We know its a huge show and the head of business from Volvo, he watches it, so we new it would attract a lot of people from the area, which is a great opportunity.

"It is a huge deal. We could see it straight away on Facebook as soon as we started to post a few teasers.

"It has gone viral across Carlisle and across Cumbria really."

Fans of the show who want to sit on the throne - one of three from the show used at various events - would otherwise have to travel and, in most cases, pay for the experience.

Punters were given props including masks, wigs and swords to really get into character.

Katie Kelton, 16, of Cartmel Drive, Carlisle, is a huge fan and loves the idea of the magical story.

She said: "I was very excited. It was amazing."

The Austin Friars pupil added that her friends would be "very jealous" she got to sit on the throne.

Gary and Judith Chandler, of Margery Street, near Greystone Road, Carlisle, are hooked on the show and are even going on a cruise to Croatia next year where some of the filming took place.

Gary, 54, said: "It's absolutely fantastic.

"To actually sit on the throne itself was amazing."
