Twenty-four vacancies are in Carlisle, 13 in Whitehaven, 12 in Workington, 11 in Kendal, seven in Penrith, and 15 in Barrow.
It is recruiting customer advisers and stock assistants to work in stores, and drivers for its distribution service.
Most of the vacancies are for three to four months, with the potential for some roles to become permanent.
Recruits will be offered a minimum of 10 hours per week, or six hours for weekend staff.
Steve Farndale, divisional manager at Argos, said: “The Christmas period is naturally an extremely busy and exciting time of year for Argos.
“Many [temporary staff] in the past have gone on to develop their career with us and progress rather rapidly to run a team, department or even store.”
Nationally, Argos is recruiting more than 10,000 temporary staff.
