Housing bid for Papcastle

PLANS for a 12-home housing estate at Papcastle have been revealed.

Home Group wants to build the estate of eight low-cost terraced homes and four private detached houses to the west of the existing development at Belle Vue and east of the Papcastle bypass.

The land is owned by David and William Robinson, who have lived and worked on farms in Dovenby and Tallentire.

They are keen to work with Home Group and one of the private detached houses is earmarked for the pair when they retire.

The land was created by the construction of the Papcastle bypass and is open and undeveloped. Each home will be two storeys high and will have parking spaces available. The terraced houses will have individual off-road parking and 12 additional spaces will be provided.

The planning application to Allerdale council said demand for this type of affordable housing remained high, especially in the villages surrounding Cockermouth, and it was thought the development was important to try to satisfy the demand.

A Home Group spokesman said: “If the application is approved we will be working closely with local residents and the parish council to get exactly what people want for the village.”

Has the snow and ice spoiled your day?

Yes. The roads and pavements are dangerous and the weather has caused havoc.

No. It isn't that bad and I can't see what all the fuss is about.
