Sellafield pay talks collapse

PAY talks between management and nuclear workers at Sellafield have broken down.
The company met with site unions yesterday for preliminary talks ahead of planned negotiations today.
Bosses tabled an improved offer for the lowest paid staff on site, a revised offer on basic pay for the entire workforce, reassurances on the achievability of incentive payments and consolidation of bonus earned.
Sellafield says the deal could be worth up to 4.5 per cent and five per cent for the lower paid. Employees would also be able to achieve consolidation of up to 3.75 per cent on basic pay.
Unions have rejected the deal and are urging workers to vote for industrial action.
A spokesman for Sellafield said: “The company view the revised position as comparable with other settlements currently being reached. The site unions, however, did not feel that this represented sufficient movement to take back to their members for consideration.”
Management’s original offer was a two per cent rise on basic pay with the chance to earn the same again through efficiency savings.
