Be a winner in awards

WORKINGTON businesses are being urged to put aside the current economic gloom and get involved in Cumbria’s premier business awards.

No firm from the town has yet entered the CN Group Business Awards 2008, which has left organisers scratching their heads and wondering why.

Entry is free and there are categories to suit every size and model of business.

Neil Hodgkinson, editorial director of Cumbrian Newspapers, said: “We have had entries flying in from every other area of the county, but none so far from Workington. It is surprising because the town has always been the economic backbone of the area and continues to produce innovative and enterprising businesspeople.

“I would urge businesses of every size and shape to enter – it’s free, you will receive valuable publicity in the News & Star and the Times & Star and you might even win a prize. It would be a shame if a town as famous for industry and commerce as Workington missed out.”

The CN Group Awards 2008 aim to celebrate the achievements of businesses and individuals throughout Cumbria.

CN Group owns and publishes the News & Star.

Sponsors for the awards, which will culminate in a ceremony at Rheged, Penrith, on October 30, are David Allen Accountants; the Cumberland Building Society; HSBC; the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority; Business Link Northwest; Invest in Cumbria; Burnetts Solicitors; and the Redhall Group.

Anyone interested in sponsoring a category should call Pam McLeod on 01228 612237.

Details of the awards and the 14 categories, plus online application forms, are available on The Cumberland News’ website at www.cumberland-news.co.uk
