Bus driver rescued after crash in Carlisle

A woman was rescued from the bus she was driving after it was in collision with a car.
The female bus driver was travelling through Harraby, Carlisle, when the crash happened just after 1.15pm yesterday.
She was helped from her cab by a bus driver from another company, who was one of the first people on the scene.
At around the same time, a cyclist and bus collided on Lowther Street, outside the Subway sandwich shop. No-one was injured.
The Harraby collision took place around the Beverley Rise and Pennine Way junction where the Stagecoach bus, which was not carrying passengers, was on its daily route.
The bus was in collision with a Rover driven by an 82-year-old woman from the immediate area.
The front of the bus was badly damaged. Its doors were also jammed open and the side step bent out of shape.
Barry Dodgson, 40, of Stanwix, Carlisle, was driving a bus for Wigton firm Reays on a route through the area.
He stopped his vehicle and rushed to help the two women involved in the crash.
The elderly car driver was being looked after by neighbours who had come out onto the street.
The female bus driver, whose details have not been released, was stuck in her cab. Barry helped her out through the window, then climbed in to kick the cab open.
Both drivers were shaken but unhurt and did not need hospital treatment.
Mr Dodgson believes the incident happened as the bus was slowing down to pull into a stop. He said: “Considering it wasn’t done at speed it was a bad crash. It’s going to be a write off, or off the road for a long time. ”
A spokeswoman for Stagecoach said: "No injuries to the driver were sustained and we are assisting the police with their investigation. A replacement vehicle and driver were sent to continue the running of this service".
