Broadband boost
Last updated at 12:11, Monday, 29 October 2012
A group in Carlisle helping plug the digital divide has received backing from BT.
Community Reach, which works to make sure people in the city can make the most of broadband connections, has been given a year’s free internet connection by the communications giant through its Community Connections scheme.
And the backing has been welcomed as positive move as a multi-million proud project takes place to roll out superfast broadband in Cumbria.
Liz Mallinson, the county councillor responsible for broadband, said: “Broadband is an increasingly essential part of modern day life.
“Community Reach has a vital part to play in ensuring that the citizens of Cumbria get the most from the opportunities that broadband presents.
“Initiatives such as BT Community Connections are helping to get everybody in Cumbria on-line, and play an important role as part of our Connecting Cumbria Strategy.”
