Of course this is welcome news for Carlisle and for local fans of cycling. I just hope that some of our more limelight-seeking politicos don't try to hijack the event to further their own egos or crackpot ideas or claim credit for Mr. Wiggins' appearance. One hopes, however, that Mrs Martlew gets her pooper scooper out to clear the way for the competitors and thusly set the limit for city councillor involvement.

Petethegreet, Whats the point in doing anything in life? In my oppinion its those attitudes that see alot of big things bypass this part of the county, if its not your cup of tea dont go but dont put it down for everyone else!

Excellent news that Wiggo and Cav will be riding I hope theres a massive turn out in the city and that it might jee up the council to improve our road networks for cycling!!

Carlisle has seen many bike races before. The Milk Marketing Board was my favourite some decades ago. The then annual Carlisle Rugby field Tent show was another of my outdoor favourite pursuits. I'm looking forward to seeing the Tour of Britain and thanks kindly N&S for adding further sporting weblinks. In the longterm it would be nice to see a well planned annual 'Bradley Wiggins' Carlisle Bike Race route centred around the new CNDR's Stainton/Etterby road with a circular around the border city, finishing in town centre. YES WE CAN... win Gold.

Lets hope for another Wiggo win to round off a great year for British sport.
