Boy, 3, taken to Newcastle hospital after collision with van

A three-year-old boy has been taken for treatment in the north east following a collision involving a van in Carlisle.

The child, who was on foot at the time of the incident, underwent checks at the Cumberland Infirmary but was today taken to a hospital in Newcastle. He was in a stable condition.

The collision happened on Newtown Road at 2.45pm yesterday (Monday). Police and ambulance crews were called to the scene.

The child was said to have suffered bruising and cuts.

Police said the family of the boy wanted to thank passers-by who helped at the scene, including a nurse.

Officers have appealed for any witnesses to contact them on 101.

Yes - we could do with more specialist shops, not bars

As long as they are not all the same I don't mind how many there are
