Bowling alley evacuated as fire breaks out

A bowling alley had to be evacuated this afternoon when fire broke out in its kitchen.

AMF Bowling, on Currock Road, Carlisle, was evacuated around 4.45pm today after a small fryer fire broke out in its kitchen.

Firefighters from Carlisle's two fire stations were scrambled to the scene after the alley's automated fire alarms sounded.

Eyewitnesses say 50-100 people were outside of the bowling alley by the time firefighters arrived to tackle the incident.

Crews used carbon dioxide extinguishers and fire blankets to put out the blaze. They returned to their stations in Eastern Way and Brookside an hour later.

Everyone was accounted for and no-one was hurt, firefighters said.

What faith do you have in rail services in Cumbria improving?

Every. Anything better than what we have currently is an improvement

None. There's little substance to what the Government is saying for the general passenger

It will get better - but only once old trains are taken off the tracks
