Border's Lookaround set for return to TV screens

Border TV's regional news programme Lookaround is on the verge of a return to television screens.

As part of its licence renewal process consultation with regulator Ofcom, ITV has been asked to restore a full 30 minute local news bulletin.

Ofcom wants the Border licence to increase the amount of regional news and current affairs programming, aimed at "enhancing the coverage of Scottish issues for viewers north of the border."

The possible return of Lookaround was welcomed by South Lakes MP Tim Farron, who has vigorously campaigned for it to be reinstated.

Since 2009, viewers have shared a news programme with the north east, with just 15 minutes of local content.

Mr Farron said: “ITV get their highest ratings for regional news in the Border region, which is a real reflection on the community spirit round here and the passion for keeping in touch with what’s going on locally.

“It’s therefore only right that local residents get a regional news programme that matches that spirit and passion,” he added.

The renewal consultation is open until May 2. Ofcom is working towards issuing new 10-year licences before the current ones expire at the end of next year.

No date has been set for when Lookaround may be back on screens.

Have your say

OK Tony, you win. Please accept my sincere apologies.
Your points are valid and well made, and more than a match for any juxtaposition I can think of at the moment.
Please excuse me while I take a detailed study of the Sunday Post.

Lookaround was largley irrelevant, hugely outdated and belongs where it is, dead & buried.
