Biker taken to hospital after Wigton crash

A motorcyclist has been taken to hospital after a crash near Wigton.

The A596 has reopened after it was closed between the junctions for Station Hill and Kirkbride.

Emergency services were called to the scene after reports of a collision involving a car and a motorcyclist.

The male motorcyclist has been taken to the Cumberland Infirmary in Carlisle, although his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Police said they were called at 7.20pm and the road was closed around 40 minutes later.

Highways officers were called to clean up a fuel spill on the road
