Biker taken to hospital after crash closes north Cumbria road

A biker was taken to hospital after a crash at Calvo on Saturday morning left the Abbeytown to Silloth road closed for two hours.

The male rider, from Silloth, was riding a Suzuki motorcycle that was in collision with an Asda delivery van.

He suffered cuts and muscular injuries and was taken to Carlisle's Cumberland Infirmary. His injuries were said to be not life-threatening.

The van was being driven by a man from Clifton, near Workington, who was not seriously hurt.

Firefighters contained petrol and diesel, which leaked from the vehicles on to the road.

The route reopened at 1.15pm.
