A MAN died and another was seriously hurt in a crash between a motorcyclist and a car.
The motorcyclist who died at the scene outside the Blackbeck Inn, Egremont has been named as Stephen Sharp, 52, from Millom.
The 56-year-old driver of the car, who is understood to come from the Manchester area, was taken to the West Cumberland hospital in Whitehaven. His condition was described as "stable and comfortable"
The crash happened at around 7.40pm.
Mr Sharp’s family has paid tribute to a man who was “the life and soul of the party”.
His family said: “It is with great sadness that Stephen has been so tragically taken from us. He will be deeply missed by his family, especially his daughter and his extensive friends from around the country.
“Best known for his love of motorbikes and rock music, his characteristics made him the life and soul of the party. Stephen will undoubtedly be missed by all who knew him.”
The road was closed whilst the emergency services dealt with the incident and carried out their investigation of the scene.
A police spokeswoman said: “The collision involved a Vauxhall Astra driven by a 56-year-old male and motorcycle driven by a 52-year-old male.
“Sadly the rider of the motorcycle died at the scene as a result of his injuries.
“The driver of the car was taken to the West Cumberland hospital at Whitehaven where he is being treated for serious injuries.”
Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to phone PC 1410 Benzie of the West Roads Policing Unit on 101.
