It was a special moment for Sir Tony, his wife Anne, daughter Angela and son Daniel as he received the honour from Prince Charles yesterday.

Sir Tony attended the palace alongside other recipients, including Eden Project founder Tim Smit.

Prince Charles spoke to the MP during the investiture.

Sir Tony said: “He said something which we already know. He said ‘You represent one of the most beautiful parts of the world’.

“He also asked how the area was recovering after the floods.

“He has obviously got a very keen interest in Cumbria.”

Do decorative lights in town centres make a difference to the way you feel about Christmas?

Certainly. I don't feel the season has started until after the big switch-on

These days I don't think they're worth the expense

Love them - but they shouldn't be switched on until December
