Residents' anger at plans for 35 new homes in village

Brigham residents have vigorously objected to proposals to build 35 homes in the village.

Have your say

Talk about not in my backyard! Methinks if it had been a development of executive housing it would have been welcomed. Brigham already has a bypass and whenever i've been through it i've never seen another car on the road. They'll be issuing passes to get in and out of the place next.

I can't believe that somebody has suggested pressure on the sewerage system as a possible objection to 35 houses! That person must have some unusual bathroom habits to say the least.

Come on Home Group - this is not about doing our village a favour. 35 is not much of a percentage increase when you argue that point. However this village has a road running through it which was originally built for horse drawn carts. I can't recall driving through the village without having to come to a halt due to oncoming vehicles, and people havinng to manouvre or even reverse out of the way. It is at saturation point as far as vehicles are concerned. What vital services in the village will be secured by these additional homes? We have already lost our pubs and restaurants. Many of the houses in Brigham fall into the "affordable" bracket and still remain unsold due to the current market. I hope the Home Group learn the lessons from those who have converted the old Police HQ into small "affordable" flats and tiny cottages ... after a flurry of activity have any been sold - so where are the masses of people wanting to come and live here? The village is balanced as it is, and I hope people who live here will speak out before it is too late.

There is always something rather ironic about these objections to proposed developments. Surely every developed plot in the village was once a piece of green field. Creating the village as it is now has involved 'ripping up the countryside' and 'damage (to) some wildlife'. Unless High Brigham (and Blennerhasset) were once barren expanses of bare earth, of course.

As chairman of Brigham Parish Council, Edna Edger surely knows the village as well as anyone. Who am I to doubt her claim that an extra 35 houses will cause a four-fold increase in traffic in the village?

I fear there may literally be no room for NIMBYism in the years to come..

will bring in new people, (have they actually sold the houses they intend to build?. can the rent be afforded?) the sustained viability of the village? what exactly does that mean? the village has been going for years no problem without the need for more houses.as ususal the developers sound like they are doing the village a favour, when it looks like they`re doing the opposite.
