Aircraft landing sparks airport emergency

A scare surrounding an aircraft landing at Carlisle Airport triggered an emergency alert.

Firefighters were called out to the airfield on the outskirts of the city just after 4pm today.

Eyewitness said it appeared that the landing gear of a light aircraft had not properly release before it reached the ground.

It is understood there were no serious injuries to anyone involved or significant damage to the aircraft, which was towed away by emergency vehicles after the drama.
