Work to resurface the roads by the West Cumberland Hospital will begin next week.

Cumbria County Council said phase one, between the A595 and the entrance to Homewood Road staff car park, will start on Monday.

Access to the hospital will be maintained from Overend Road and it is expected to last for 23 days.

On August 3, work will take place outside the entrance to Homewood Road staff car park.

The car park will be closed from 7.30am that day and is scheduled to reopen on Sunday, August 6.

Phase two will start on August 16. The road will be closed from the current entrance to the hospital one-way system and the current exit will become two-way temporarily.

The expected duration of phase two is 42 days and it will be completed in three sections.

The first section will end just below the entrance to Sneckyeat Road to allow access to the industrial estate and staff car park. Access to the hospital maintained via A595.

On August 29, the second section will begin, which means a road closure from Sneckyeat Road to Richmond Hill Road. Access to the industrial estate and hospital staff car park will be maintained and access to the hospital will be via the A595.

On September 9, the final section will mean a road closure on Sneckyeat Road and the staff car park on the industrial estate will be closed over the weekend to allow for work at the entrance to the estate, reopening on September 11. Access to hospital site maintained via A595.

On September 27, phase three is due to start and there will be a road closure from Richmond Hill junction to Muncaster Road. The anticipated duration is 13 days. Access to hospital via A595.

On October 9, there will be a road closure from Muncaster Road to Cleator Moor Road (B5295). The anticipated duration is 13 days. Access to the hospital is from the A595.

Stagecoach bus services will continue to run and notices will be posted on stops temporarily out of action due to road closures advising passengers of the nearest alternative stop.
