PLANS to transform a town's swimming pool have been met with eager anticipation.

Wigton Baths Trust held an event in a pop-up shop in High Street on Thursday and Friday of last week.

The trust welcomed any feedback and unveiled the plans, that were recently approved, to interested residents.

Allerdale Council planners gave the proposals the green light on August 1, which will see a new reception, viewing gallery, multi-purpose activity room, coffee and vending machines, as well as improvements to the drainage.

Chairwoman of the baths, Mave Tyas, said: "It went very well, it was very encouraging.

"Everybody was positive, everybody seemed to think it was a good thing for the town.

"A lot of people wanted information about the vehicle access, we had all sorts of questions.

"(Cumbrian broadcaster) Melvyn Bragg was there, he was reminiscing about swimming at Wigton Baths. A lot of people made it through the doors over the two days.

"(MP) Rory Stewart is coming to the baths to see the plans. The mayor of Wigton (Elaine Lynch) came along."

Drone footage was also provided by Joe Cowell, Allerdale councillor for Wigton, which gave aerial shots from over the baths.

There were about 100 people who came through the doors across the two days.

Anyone who missed the pop-up shop can view the plans at the baths.
