Experts are warning Freeview viewers that TV channels may be disrupted as 4G coverage is rolled out in Workington.

Mobile phone companies are adding more areas to the 4G coverage, giving faster access to the internet on smartphones and tablets.

However, a government-backed scheme is offering help to people who may experience interference to their Freeview service, such as loss of sound, a blocky picture or "no signal" message.

The company, at800, is giving free support to resolve any interference caused by 4G signals for households reliant on Freeview.

It says there is a "small chance" that some 4G mobile signals transmitted at 800 MHz may cause interference to Freeview, which is received through an aerial.

Ben Roome, chief executive officer of at800, said: "We want to ensure that people know it's our role to fix Freeview interference caused by 4G at 800 MHz, and that there's no charge for our service."

Engineers will visit the homes of people who rely on Freeview to fix any interference. Those who use the service alongside other TV services can be sent free filters which block mobile signals.

Anyone who notices any interference can contact at800, on 0808 13 13 800 or www.at800.tv/contact-us
