Expected outbreaks of overnight rain, sleet and snow have prompted the latest weather warning as a cold snap and stormy conditions continue to cause disruption across the country.

The Met Office predicts that the outbreaks will extend east across Scotland and northern England this evening and through Sunday morning.

Forecasters say they will lead to the risk of icy stretches on untreated surfaces as well as some snow.

Up to 3cm could fall on high ground in northern England, above 150m, the Met Office says.

Between 5cm-10cm could accumulate over higher ground in Scotland.

Sleet and snow is expected to turn to rain after midnight.

The weather could impact on driving conditions and result in slippery paths and cycle routes.
