A star from the hit TV show The Voice will perform at the opening of a new nursery in Carlisle.

Craig Ward, who was a semi-finalist on the show, will sing his heart out at the official opening of Moonbeams at St Cuthbert's nursery next month.

The nursery, run by Craig's sister Laura Ward, is on the site of St Cuthberts Catholic Primary School on Victoria Road in Botcherby.

The new Botcherby nursery, in a purpose built annex, will open on September 4 but will have an open day on September 30 when Craig will perform.

Laura said: "The open day will run from 1pm to 4pm and Craig is coming down from Scotland to do a set for us.

"He's been busy since The Voice. He performed at Ayr Races for ladies night and he's got a big gig coming up in Glasgow on September 16.

"His new single is about to be released as well. We're so pleased for him."

The nursery will also offer a breakfast and after school club and a holiday club.

Laura, 37, said: "It's a very exciting time. We've got 26 places available for two, three and four-year-olds. I'm also offering the 30 hours free childcare, funded places and there will be pay as you go day care."

The nursery will also offer a breakfast and after school club and a holiday club.

"There will be three members of staff to start with," said Laura.

Her Little Moonbeams Day Care business on Milbourne Street will continue to run with a new manager.

Laura said: "We also have plans to open a new nursery at Caldew Lea School. They are having some renovations going on there at the moment to one of the buildings.

"I am looking forward to it."

An ice cream van will also attend the opening day on September 30 - weather permitting.

Laura said: "We are really fortunate to have inherited very good equipment at the nursery.

"We will be redeveloping the nursery garden soon so we may be looking for some help with that."
