A violent thug who stabbed two women with a carving fork has been caged for more than three years.

Stephen Hodgson, 20, had binged on alcohol and taken cocaine before launching his attack with the two-pronged implement at an 18th birthday party in Whitehaven.

Amy-Lee Johnson was stabbed in the chest while trying to calm down an aggressive Hodgson, but escaped serious injury.

However, Kelly Williamson suffered nasty cuts near her eye as he then thrust the six-inch fork into her face.

At Carlisle Crown Court today, Hodgson was sentenced having admitted six crimes - all of which were committed while he was "on the run" from police in August last year.

These were two wounding charges, affray, possessing a pointed article and twice intending to pervert the course of justice.

Hodgson, of no fixed address, was jailed for three years and three months. He was also banned from contacting Miss Williamson for five years.

Recorder Philip Curran said of her injury: "This is an incident which could have had the potential of causing her to lose her eye."
