Couples who dream of getting married in the Lake District can now tie the knot without even venturing outdoors - at the Solway Hall in Whitehaven!

A life size image of Ennerdale Water has been installed in the Ennerdale Suite which now hosts weddings, as part of a £49,000 revamp.

The striking photograph will provide an authentic backdrop of the famous water as couples sign the wedding register.

Local photographer Billy Redden, from Moor Row, took the image while he was out walking early one morning.

He said: "I like to get out to one of the fells really early and wait for the sun to rise so I can get a photo.

"This particular image was taken at sunrise in February so you can see the snow on the fells.

"I had no idea what it was going to be used for when I took it. It's actually not my favourite photo!"

Anne Kelly, trustee of Rosehill Theatre, which manages the Solway Hall, said she saw the photo online and thought it would make an ideal backdrop for the Ennerdale Suite.

She said: "I wanted a photo of Ennerdale Water, with it being the Ennerdale Suite. When my son showed me Billy's photo online I thought, that's just Ennerdale!"

The photo was enlarged and printed on to self-adhesive vinyl by Adam Ross at AS Design in Cleator Moor.

Mrs Kelly said that the finished design was "magnificent."

"It just hits you in the face as soon as you walk into the room," she added.

The new look Ennerdale Suite comes after Rosehill Youth Theatre received £49,000 to revamp the Solway Hall.

Funding was awarded from the Community Choices campaign, where the public got to vote for the community projects they wanted to receive funding.

The organisation will use the rest of the cash to refurbish the hall, reception area and toilets.
