Ariana Grande and Little Mix tribute acts are set to star at Whitehaven's Christmas lights switch-on next month.

The festive event, which is due to take place on Sunday, November, 19, will feature a host of entertainment.

Little Fix, who have appeared on the BBC One programme Even Better Than The Real Thing , are due to perform songs by the pop band Little Mix.

An Ariana Grande tribute act will also be taking to the stage for the glitzy switch-on event.

Details of the Christmas festivities have been revealed at the latest Whitehaven Town Council meeting.

Coun Charles Maudling, said: "The switch-on event will feature the two tribute acts, CFM roadshow and Taylor's Fairgound."

A street collection will be held for the mayor's charity, Hospice at Home West Cumbria.

Volunteers from the community are also being invited to help on the day. People can contact the Whitehaven Town Council office, at Whitehaven Civic Hall, for more details.

The festivities will also include two Christmas trees at St Nicholas' Church.

Coun Maudling said an event management plan is in action. He will be meeting with emergency services to discuss the event.

"We will walk the streets and have a meeting with with town clerk. We're leaving no stone un-turned," he added.

St John Ambulance will be providing first aid and councillors have also agreed to hire Three Kings Security.

Coun Maudling said that in the lead up to festivities, it has come to light that two boxes of Christmas lights have gone missing.

In the lead up to the event, town councillors have found that a number of Christmas lights due to be put have gone missing.

Coun Jayne Laine also raised concerns about the lights adding: "There is a lot of stock missing."

It is not known where the missing lights are or exactly when they went missing.

The remaining lights are set to be put up by Cumbria County Council staff before the switch-on event.
