Beyonce, Justin Bieber, and Peter Kay have all graced the stage of Manchester Arena - and now Bransty Primary School pupils can be added to the hall of fame.

Youngsters at the school "thoroughly enjoyed" taking part in one of the world's largest schools choir concerts held at the UK's biggest arena.

Forty pupils in years four, five and six joined thousands of other children from schools across the country to perform in Young Voices 2018.

The concerts aim to inspire a love of music and create memories for the children that will last a lifetime.

This is the second year that Bransty Primary School pupils have taken part.

As the school regularly uses British Sign Language to support the curriculum, pupils even signed to some of the songs.

Headteacher Joanne Fearon said: "Parents watching the concert commented that this was really effective – showing off our children and allowing them to stand out within the arena."

Leading up to the event, pupils practise music in class and at home to prepare themselves for the massive concert.

Music is specially selected to introduce children to a diverse range of musical styles. Youngsters also learn a selection of dance moves that are performed while singing the songs.

Between 5,000 and 8,000 children then perform together as a single choir to an audience of family and friends.

Mrs Fearon said: "This experience broadens the children’s horizons. It is an amazing cultural opportunity to visit an arena and be part of a fantastic experience that they may not have the opportunity to have at any other time.

"They enjoy being part of a huge choir, learning more about how music is composed and performed with inspirational, professional musicians taking direction from a well-respected conductor and feedback from audience.

"They are also inspired by the wide variety of music styles that are used in the concert and the wealth of expertise around them from musicians, vocalists, a well-respected conductor to street dancers and performers."
