Police were forced to issue a warning to the public, after stolen drugs were hidden in Carlisle.

The move came yesterday after burglars broke into Well Pharmacy, on Eden Street, Belah, at about 7.50am.

They escaped with various items of medication - although police did not reveal any details about what type of medication had been taken, or its potential danger.

A black bag was later recovered from its hiding place between Troon Close and Brunstock Close, but it was empty.

Officers believed the medication may have been transferred into an Aldi bag and hidden in a second location within the the Brunstock Close and Kingstown Road area.

This prompted the force to issue an urgent warning to the public to be aware and report any such findings to the police as soon as possible.

Inspector Kim Brennand reassured residents in the area that officers were working hard to locate and recover any stolen medication.

It was also used as an opportunity to remind parents to teach their children about the potential dangers of such medications.

"I would also ask that parents warn children who may be playing in the area about the dangers of taking medication that does not belong to them," said Insp Brennand, "and that if they find anything like that to tell an adult.”

Yesterday afternoon Cumbria Police confirmed that they had recovered the medication.

A 26-year-old man from Carlisle has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and is currently in police custody.

Anyone with any information about the burglary is asked to call Cumbria Police on 101 and ask for Detective Sergeant Chris Brennand, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
