Temporary traffic lights are in place near the site of Workington's new KFC as work is carried out to reroute a water pipe.

The lights are in place next to the site of the new restaurant, at the junction of Bessemer Way and Lakes Road, so work can be done to divert the pipe around rather than under the store.

A spokesman for United Utilities said the work, which is being carried out by Gallagher Ltd, had proved more complicated than anticipated but it was hoped it will be completed by next Friday.

KFC announced its interest in Workington in 2011 and last year an application was approved for the two-storey development opposite Derwent Drive industrial estate.

Construction began on the new KFC branch in May and the company previously said it hoped to open in November.

Managerial jobs were advertised in March and further positions are still available. The firm is still recruiting for other roles.

Last month a planning application was submitted for 10 building signs and 16 ground signs on and around the building. A decision is pending.
